Now it is difficult to surprise a person with something. People are fed up with information and vivid pictures. But Nature is a great architect, her imagination is simply inexhaustible, and every time she is able to present something to the gaze of the observer, from which he freezes in awe. There is no doubt that one of such unsurpassed places on Earth is the Zion National Park in the USA.
Zion National Park is located in the southwestern United States, within the state of Utah. Here, on an area of about 600 km², the Virginia River has dug deep, unusually winding and spectacular gorges over many thousands of years. The river succeeded in this work solely because the territory of the state here is composed of loose, powerful layers of sandstone, which have a rich yellow color. Moreover, these layers are not located horizontally, but reared at a large angle, sometimes almost vertically. This gives the gorges a special look: it seems from the side that the mistress river cut a layer cake with a monstrous knife, having previously crumpled its sides.
Zion National Park is a fantastic combination of the deepest gorges, sheer cliffs and brown, like unearthly hills. Here, on a relatively small area of land, there are mountains and plains, steppes and forests, sand and water.
