Hallstatt is a small but very amazing town in Austria, located along the shore of the lake with the same name and closed by rocks from the outside world. More recently, Hallstatt was difficult to reach for tourists due to its location, but today guests can come here both by public transport and by car.
The town is basically the main square, one street running along the lake, and another parallel street a little higher. It is surprising that cars can only move along one of them. You can see it in its entirety in a couple of hours maximum, stopping at every second step, going into every souvenir shop along the way and taking pictures of the city from all angles. The main attractions of Hallstatt are:
- The Catholic Church, built already in the 12th century, and restored in 2002,
- Hallstätter Marktplatz – the main square of the city, located in its center, it hosts all important social events, such as fairs and concerts,
- The Evangelical Church, you probably already know it – you can see it in all the photographs of the city.
Its 16th-century Alpine houses and alleyways are home to cafes and shops. A funicular railway connects to Salzwelten, an ancient salt mine with a subterranean salt lake, and to Skywalk Hallstatt viewing platform. A trail leads to the Echern Valley glacier garden with glacial potholes and Waldbachstrub Waterfall.
